Program

VPT is excited to invite playback practitioners and graduates of our own programs for a seven-day advanced training program in Brooklyn, New York. We employ traditional and innovative methods in the rehearsal studio to improve your abilities as a performer and practitioner. We believe Playback Theatre elevates each story for personal growth, relationship-building, and leadership development.

Our training is outcomes-based and will culminate in performances at venues in New York City.  â€‹This instruction is designed to provide advanced skills and a chance to apply them with VPT's local partnering organizations who represent underserved communities in NYC.

Our collaborative approach and experiential learning process, delivered through performances, workshops, and trainings, has been offered to students of all ages, people from diverse backgrounds and abilities in academic, rehabilitative, social service, healthcare, community and business settings.

This advanced  intensive requires previous experience and training in Playback Theatre and will provide specific tools and skills such as

  • Conductor interviews with the audience

  • Story construction for the actors/musicians

  • Balancing the ensemble of musician + actor + conductor

  • The use of metaphor and distancing

  • Creating compelling openings and closings.

  • Using ritual to deepen audience engagement

  • Navigating sensitive topics with vulnerable audiences

  • Integrating singing into your existing forms
